Poetry
Long before people began to communicate through writing,
they uttered combinations of words having the sound of poetry.
Yet after thousands of years, no one has produced a single definition of poetry
that takes into account all the ways in which poetry makes itself heard.
When we want to know the values, character, and the particular genius of
any country--ancient or modern--we turn to its poetry.
From them we can learn what satistics and charts and economic surveys cannot tell us.
we learn what common experiences unite their people.
we learn what they cherish from the past and what they aspire to in the future.
Poets express the values we live by.
Poets express beliefs, hopes, and ambitions that are shared by everyone.
You can find many definitions for poets and poetry,
but you won't be able to point to any of them as the exact definition

Breakthroughs
First we are a child, then we become an adolescent, then an adult.
we may start out poor and become rich, or vice versa. We may start out foolish and become wise.
Our life may be full of strife, but with effort or luck it becomes peaceful.
We may be lonely and then find companionship.
We may be sick and break through to health.
All of us can probably think of breakthroughs we would like to make in our lives
and of ones we've already made. In some respects, most of us have lives about breakthroughs.
Maybe that's because we long so deeply for that lucky break,
for those changes that will transform our lives
